Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration at Bethlehem Baptist Church

Chris Gensheer   -

On Monday, January 20, we as a nation will take time to remember and celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr… A man who from his position as a Pastor spoke to the hearts and minds not just of his congregation, but of an entire country.

The Legacy of Dr. King

His work as a civil rights activist while embroiled in the injustice of his time was birthed out of his convictions as a Christian that all people are created in the image of God. Regardless of the color of their skin or station in life to which they were born; More than what they suffered and more than the suffering they inflict, all men and women are human beings and worthy of dignity, respect, and the ability to live in harmony with others.

You didn’t have to agree with him; that conviction still held true despite the opposition, rejection, and hatred that he endured.

And so he raised his voice to speak for those who felt like they had little to no voice, and over time, his message echoed throughout the land. While it is true that for many of our friends, family, and neighbors, there is still much work to be done, we can be thankful that we are not where we once were.
